Sneakers Had a Major Moment During the 2021 Presidential Inauguration

Yesterday was Inauguration Day where Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn in and officially named as the 46th President and Vice President of the United States, respectively. Of course, the day was not complete without major viral moments provided by the candidates and their families along with invited attendees.

Fashion and style from the inauguration were the talk of the day as everyone came dressed to impress for the momentous occasion. Sneakers seemed to be one the many highlights from the inauguration…and it came from the families of the new administration!

While Senator Amy Klobuchar was speaking, someone was spotted running down the steps in a pair of the Dior x Air Jordan 1 sneakers and camera switches just before their face is revealed. The moment quickly went viral, making headlines and leaving everyone asking who was rocking the collaborative shoes. Kamala Harris’s niece Meena Harris later confirmed that it was her husband Nikolas Ajagu. While packing for the trip to DC, he even asked Harris whether he should bring his dress shoes or Jordan sneakers of which she replied “Do what makes you happy” and he definitely did just that. Ajagu’s shoes retailed at $2,000 and are worth over $10,000 now.

There was another sneaker moment provided by Maisy Biden, daughter of Hunter and Kathleen Biden and grandchild to Joe Biden. She was spotted in a navy suit paired with Air Jordan 1 sneakers as well. Sources are still trying to pinpoint what pair she wore, suggesting it could be the Air Jordan 1 Mid “Sisterhood”, Air Jordan 1 “Court Purple” or the Air Jordan 1 Co.JP “Midnight Navy”. Either way, we live for a good pantsuit and kicks combination.

Last night at the inaugural ball, Maisy Biden was also spotted in a $1,575 Rodarte FW20 RTW dress paired with Nike sneakers, giving us yet another non-traditional look. Maisy seems to be the family’s sneakerhead as she was even spotted in a pair of Air Jordan 4s “Metallic Green” during her grandfather’s presidential victory.

Not to mention, our very own VP happens to love Converse sneakers and it has become somewhat of a signature item for her. She frequently wore them on the campaign trail and even rocked them for her recent Vogue cover.

With such sneaker lovers in the families of our newly elected president and vice president, let’s hope we’ll see more feet heat during this term!
