Just last week, Melody Ehsani teased us with a video of her holding a ME. x Jordan shoe box, hinting at yet another collaboration between her and the Jordan brand. Yesterday, she revealed a sneak peak of the actual shoe along with some powerful inspiration notes.
In January, Jordan brought back its original Air Jordan Women OG in black/white and dropped the Barely Rose color way in February. Now, Melody Ehsani is putting her own personal twist on Jordan’s iconic women’s basketball sneaker. The sneaker comes in black and red along with reflective lining and bares a cherry emblem at the bottom of the tongue. Melody stated in a post that she incorporated the cherry because it has been known to convey the ideals of “abundance, fertility, and protection” throughout history. As a woman and former basketball player herself, this shoe was personal to Melody. She also included a timeline of events which inspired her shoe design including her letter to Magic Johnson on the inclusion of women in his basketball camp, the launch of the WBNA in 1996, the 1998 release of the Air Jordan OG, and Sanaa Lathan’s role in Love & Basketball.

Strategically, the release of the sneaker is set for this month which happens to be Women’s History Month and the sneaker certainly commemorates the history of the women who paved a way for women’s inclusion in basketball AND sneaker culture. A set date has yet to be announced, but we can expect it very soon. We also peeped the matching cherry sweatpants in the video, so look out for complimentary apparel as well.
