Converse Taps Photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis for a Floral Chuck Taylor CX Sneaker

Over the years, Converse’s iconic Chucks have evolved from its basic single color look. By tapping into some of the most unique creative minds like Tyler the Creator and JW Anderson, Chucks began to become more of canvas to collaborators. Collaborations have been spotted with eye-catching details like velvet, patchwork, and even glitter. Now, Converse is exploring floral mediums through the eyes of New York Photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis.

Shaniqwa Jarvis is a New York native who grew up on the Upper West Side with her mom who was very influential and persistent when it came to Shaniqwa’s creative endeavors. Her mom’s backing was all she needed because her resume now includes work with brands like Supreme and North Face along with some familiar faces like Tracee Ellis Ross, Cardi B, and Erykah Badu. She most recently shot the Essentials SS20 campaign that dropped last week. Shaniqwa is best known for capturing vivid portraits centered around people, landscapes, and fashion. Her shots are described as raw and thought-provoking as they tend to capture the emotional and personal aspect of the subject at hand.

While Jarvis frequently shows appreciation for her mother’s influence on her career, the upcoming sneaker pays homage to her late father who passed before Shaniqwa attended high school. She explains how her creative side came from her father and his eccentric style. So, the shoe is simply a way of “giving the man his flowers” as she puts it.

Shaniqwa continues to explore the “raw” and “vivid” through her latest collaborative sneaker with Converse. The Chuck Taylor CX sneaker features floral photographs in different shades of pink along with various filters from natural to black. In fact, the floral photography was shot by Jarvis herself while she was on a trip in Mexico. The sneaker is also complete with modern appeals including a translucent toe covering and pink midsole with a transparent overlay.

The images seen throughout are official images, however there is no official release date yet. Stay tuned for more!
